Utterly inspired by the paintings of the Flemish Primitives, Las Meninas de Velázquez and the window portraits of Vermeer, I decided to stage contemporary tableaus of Flemish families as themselves in a homely staged scene of real life. This condition produced a situation where the act of staging became a sort of double staging, a mirror and a window at the same time.

While constructing the images I focused primarily on perceiving the people’s particularities and their relations to each other, to their homely spaces and to the inherited objects that inhabit them. Through briefly experiencing them, while quickly analysing their spontaneous behaviours, peculiarities where revealed, noticing that allowed me to draw an intuitive equation on how to stage each family.
